Ljubezenske zgodbe iz tisoč in ene noči

Tisoč in ena noč, ciklično literarno delo o Šeherezadi, ki si s pripovedovanjem zgodb rešuje življenje, se uvršča v sam vrh arabske pripovedne proze. Okvirno zgodbo igrivo dopolnjujejo pravljice, novele, anekdote in pesmi, ki so večinoma perzijskega, arabskega in indijskega izvora. Niz literarnih biserov, ki v mavričnih barvah življenja odsevajo domišljijo, poezijo, sanje in strasti, ponuja neizkrivljen pogled na orientalsko ter še zlasti islamsko življenje. Originalni tekst izvira iz 8. stoletja in je ostal nespremenjen od 13. stoletja pa vse do današnjih dni, česar pa ne moremo trditi za njegove prevode v jezike zahodne civilizacije. Čeprav so pripovedke iz Tisoč in ene noči pustile pečat na francoskem razsvetljenstvu in pravljičnem pripovedništvu, so jih med prevajanjem po svoje prirejali in predelovali. Zgodbe so v puritanskem duhu časa pogosto oklestili poltenosti in "nedostojnosti".

V Šeherezadinih pripovedkah erotika postane dominantna prvina življenja, osvobojena predsodkov, moralnih preprek ali religioznih tabujev. V muslimanskem in orientalskem pojmovanju erotike nasploh prevladuje sproščena telesnost, življenje in ljubezenske variante pa se nam razodevajo z iskrenostjo in neomadeževano radostjo. Še več, erotika se v Šeherezadinih ljubezenskih zgodbah kaže v svojem bistvu, kot to, kar v resnici je - namreč božanska. Ljubezenski akt je namreč spoznanje, dejanja ljubimcev pa vzorci ustvarjalnega.
